I started taking lessons with Tamara Garrett during my freshman year of high school and never looked back! I initially came to her to work on musical theatre, but we have journeyed together into classical music, pop music, and even my own original music. Through every genre, Tamara has been a constant source of support, encouragement, and growth. Tamara has helped me improve my range (in both directions), taught me how to navigate my belt and mix, and constantly encourages me to try new things and make the music my own.

While Tamara has helped me grow as a singer, she has made a far bigger impact. Tamara was one of the only educational figures in my life who encouraged all of my dreams, and never doubted me or put me into a box. She is a light in my life and I credit so much of my artistry to her guidance. I recommend Tamara to students of all ages who are excited to grow, especially musical theatre lovers. Tamara is a ray of sunshine and a joy to work with. She is a mentor and friend, and I will forever sing her praises.

My favorite thing about Tamara’s teaching style is that she is completely adaptable to every student. She creates a safe space to make mistakes and come as you are. She fosters a desire to learn and grow in an environment that you look forward to being in.

While I know that every lesson or audition or performance will not be perfect, Tamara encourages you to look at ALL of it as progress. She helped me to stand out as a confident, polished vocalist throughout TMEA All-State Auditions and helped me to get into the music school of my choosing!

I’ve coached with Tamara periodically for 5+ years. Tamara takes great care to know your voice and to know you personally. She is very nurturing and coaching is always educational and exciting! She’s helped me to overcome several “mental blocks” that I had developed when it comes to singing. Whether it was with my mixed voice, incorporating vibrato, vowel choice, placement, etc. - she has helped me through any area that I lacked confidence.
